This a capella setting of the Latin Magnificat was quite ambitious in its contrapuntal complexity. I often had no idea what I was doing, but it was good practice and some of the ideas were quite good, coming from a 19-year old. Although the Bach Magnificat had a clear and possibly excessive influence on this piece, there is much of value here, and I went back and did a complete rework in 2000. I took care to preserve the interesting sounds that resulted from youthful experimentation, changing only the parts that just didn't work. The result is closer to what I originally intended than the first version was.
